IS HOLLYWOOD SO DESPERATE FOR NEW IDEAS AND SUREFIRE HITS THAT THEY'RE DUSTING OFF CLASSIC MOVIES FROM 20+ YEARS AGO AND MAKING SEQUELS TO THEM NOW?! YES, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE WHAT THE CLASSIC MOVIES ARE...

That's right, my kiddies!  Tom Cruise is all geared up to reprise one of the most iconic film studs in movie history -- Maverick -- and the movie is scheduled to come out in 2016 which will be exactly 30 Years from the release of the original.  Thirty.  Years.  Top Gun 2. In May of 1986 this little $15 million movie with a haunting theme song and a super hunky Tom Cruise in full leading man mode -- turned this into a supersonic worldwide hit to the tune of more than $386,000,000 at the box office.  Apparently people haven't forgotten how good that felt....however, i wonder if they've forgotten that since then Kelly McGillis has come out as a lesbian (not a shocker as their on-screen chemistry rivaled that of Jodi Foster and Mel Gibson in, well, "Maverick" LOL).  Tom, Tom, Tom...character actor roles...stop trying to reclaim what had been...it's embarrassing for all of us.

Speaking of doing drag...Mrs. Doubtfire was released in 1993 with a budget of $25 million and it had movie execs dressing up in old lady drag while doing the can can straight to the bank (it made more than $441,000,000 at the box office).  Chris Columbus directed the first Mrs. D which starred Robin Williams, of course, Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Feirstein and remember that cute little Mara??

After years of trying to make a sequel happen and then years of denying that it ever COULD happen, things are looking like a go, Columbus is back and so is Williams. Who knows about any of the other original cast members.  Columbus doesn't see a problem...20 years ago Robin Williams played an old lady...now he can play her as a old man...wow...that sounds so f-ing creepy...
