Streep's "Iron Lady" Gets December 30 Soft Launch...

...then goes wide in January to ride on the accolades she is sure to pick up when talking Golden Globe nominations.  As Deadline Hollywood Reports, "At research screenings, Streep reportedly got the highest numbers Harvey Weinstein has ever seen." Who knows if those numbers are public record or if Weinstein, who by the way is distributing "Iron Lady," is just prepping Oscar statisticians.  Nonetheless, since the trailer for "Iron Lady" leaked onto the Internet there has been unbelievalbe buzz that Streep's performance is "a career milestone."  But I mean...aren't all of her's career milestones?

I guess that is why I'm baffled that arguably the greatest actor of our time (and probably a time before ours and a time after) has only taken home the gold statue twice (and only once for Lead Actress in 1982 for "Sophie's Choice" -- the other was Supporting Actress for "Kramer vs. Kramer" her breakout role). Hilary Swank has won Lead Actress twice -- Jodi Foster thrice.  Isn't it time to give Meryl an Oscar for "body of unparalleled work" -- especially when other actresses who literally and figuratively pale in comparison have earned "body of work Oscars" such as Nicole Kidman or Renee  Zellweger?  It's time for the Iron Lady to bring home another kind of metal:  Oscar gold.  "That's the tone we want to strike."

Streep is being honored by "Kennedy Honors" this year which will air on CBS December 27 (the same date the Oscar nominations ballots will be mailed to voters!). Then the soft opening December 30th...ah, Mr. Weinstein is playing this one with an iron fist...
